Donna Olney, of Mount Dora, FL, who passed away July 13, 2008 at Cornerstone Hospice was born in Bloomdale, OH  and moved to this area in 1973 from Michigan.  Donna enjoyed being on the water working and fishing.  She was a first mate and tourguide.

Donna is survived by Thelma Rainey, Nancy Williford, Connie Hinton, Marvin Rainey, Shirley Bujno and many loving neices and nephews.

Donna enjoyed giving, so please give to others in your area in lieu of flowers and other remembrances.

Stephen G. “Steve” Ascherfeld, born on March 17, 1955, in Jacksonville, FL, passed away on July 19, 2008, in Clermont, FL, after a brief battle with lung cancer.  Steve had owned his business, Ascherfeld Custom  Builders, and was well known for his expertise in the building field of fine custom homes.  He enjoyed fishing during his spare time and spent as much time as possible in the Keys with his beloved with and first mate, Debi.  He was also a faithful Gator fan.  Steve is survived by his wife, Debi Ascherfeld of Clermont; his mother, Jean Sellers, his sister, Donna (John) Straub, both of Jacksonville, Florida; his daughter, Trina (Tom) Vickroy-Schilcher, of Spanish Fort, AL; his step-daughter Deanna (Alfred) Sevier, of Portland, TX; his step-son, Doug (Rachael) Estes, of El Paso, TX ; his aunt, Cherrie Blackburn, of Apopka, FL; his five loving grandchildren, Tyler, Tara, Julian, Alex and Riley, and a number of other relatives and friends whome he loved very much.  Steve was preceded in death by his father, Gene Ascherfeld, and his brother, Michael Ascherfeld.  A memorial service in celebration of Steve’s live will be held at their home in Clermont, FL  Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 3PM.

John T. (Dick) Graham, 85, died June 19, 2008, in Mt. Dora, Florida.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Graham, daughters Marsha G. Hoover and Melissa G. Preston, stepson Joe E. Graham, grandchildren Michael D. Hoover, Melissa Hoover Williams, Katie Graham and Maggie Preston, great grandchildren Kyle H & Jake B. Williams. 

He was predeceased by his first wife of 47 years, Margaret Louise Curtis Graham, and brothers J. William & Joe E. Graham. 

He served in the Army as a Frogman & radio operator in the South Pacific during WWII. 

Born on July 10, 1922 in Evansville, Indiana.  He raised his family in New Orleans, Louisiana and retired to Florida in 1972.

IRENE THACKER NEW 

Irene Thacker New, 75 of Daytona Beach, Fl. went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 01, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.

 

A native of Kentucky, Irene New relocated with her family to Daytona Beach, FL in 1976.

 

Irene was a generous and loving wife, parent, grandparent, and sister.  Amongst her greatest joys were homemaking and spending time with her children and granddaughter Ashley.

 

She was born July 18, 1932 in Belfry, KY to the late Berlin and Cassie Thacker.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Richard and David Thacker, and sisters Wilma Eckstein and Bonnie Ball.

 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Ervin New of Daytona Beach, FL; her son and his wife Ervin, Jr. and Teresa New of New Smyrna, FL; her daughter and her husband Alesia and Bill Haskell of  Rockledge, FL; her granddaughter Ashley Parker of Rockledge, FL; and her sister Ivalene Varney of  Matewan, WV.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Belfry, KY.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Tr., Port Orange, FL 32129. Tri-County Cremation and Funeral Home Longwood is in charge.

David L. Armstrong of Longwood Florida passed away on May 18, 2008 at his home.

David was born in Lafayette Indiana and moved to this area in 2002. He was a supervisor for Tri-City Electric Company in Longwood and enjoyed spending time with his wife whom he cherished. His wife Laverne Armstrong and three children, Gina Bailey, Angie Bailey and Charles K. Bailey survive David.

 David will be forever with us.

Carol Henson Damrau 

Deland Florida– Carol Henson Damrau 67 left this life at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 at the Hospice Care Center in Orange City Florida following an extended illness with her daughters by her side.

 

Carol was born April 21, 1941 in Pontiac Michigan. She dedicated her life to caring for the sick. She loved shopping, music and spending time with loved ones.

 Carol’s survivors include four sisters Janet Cooper of Orange City Florida, Donna Laundondo of Kingston Illinois, Cheryl Aichner of Hammond Indiana; Peggy Hall of Hobart Indiana a brother Donald Hanson , two sons Thomas Lyons of Hartford Michigan, John Lyons (Donna) of Whiting Indiana; two daughters Caren (Edward) Lyons-Hill of Watervliet Michigan, Therese (Jason) DeSanto -Haney of Stevensville Michigan, eight beautiful grandchildren including Sergeant David Hill of San Diego, California and Anthony Hill of Watervliet, Michigan and many special friends 

She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Eleanor Henson: her son Patrick Lyons and her husband Robert Damrau.

Her beauty inside and out would radiate all and her surroundings. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all as she has left her imprint in so many people’s lives.

Angelo Notaro 73 passed away May 1, 2008 at his home with loved ones at his side; son Jim and wife Sharon.

 

Angelo was born in Clinton, MA August 30, 1934. Youngest of 12 Children. Moved to Florida City, Florida at the age of 14, later became City Commissioner of Florida City in the Seventies.

 

Moved to Orlando in 1971 worked for Clopay for 10 years also worked for Roll-Lite Overhead Doors as Purchasing Manager until retirement. After which worked as a handyman helping the elder people who will all sadly miss him.

 

He is survived by his wife Sharon; son Jim, daughter-in-law Susan, step children; Terri Maloney , St. Cloud; Ron Bech, Kissimmee,  six grandchildren; Brothers Vincent  Bellview, FL; Joseph, Clinton MA; sister Helen Legauet Sterling, MA. Also will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter. At the request of the family no service will be held.    Tri-County Cremation and Funeral Home Longwood is in charge.

 Loren Grant Adams

Loren G. Adams, 86, died April 17, 2008 at Sterling House of DeLand. Mr. Adams was born September 26,1922 in East Liverpool, Ohio and moved to DeLand in 1958. He was a dental lab technician with Volusia Dental Lab for more than 42 years. Loren was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Violet Dorothy Adams; and his daughter, Lorraine Diane Adams. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tonya Adams; grandchildren: Kelly Loren Adams; Aaron and Amanda Hardy, Kevin Adams, Jr., Thomas Coker, Lacy Coker, Troy Coker; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Austin Hardy, and longtime friend, David Fuller. Crawford, Edna Ruth Sir, 82 of Ormond Beach, FL.  Moved to Ormond Beach in 1945 from Chicago, IL.  She owned the Ormond Beauty Salon on West Granada Ave which was later named Hairstylist of Ormond.  She was a charter member of the Ormond Beach Emblem Club and served as its President.  She later initiated the Ormond Beach Elks #2193 Ladies Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the local VFW and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary clubs.  She loved to craft and served as chairman many times for craft groups and craft shows at the Elks and many local churches.  She enjoyed thrift shops, Bingo, going to movies and dining out with family and friends. She loved most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her former husband, Burton R. McNary, Sr.  The McNary Family has a long history in Ormond Beach.  They were pioneers in the 1800’s and some of the first land owners in what is now Ormond Beach. Her memory will be cherished by her children, including her daughter Ruth McNary-Albert (Richard) of Bunnell, FL. Her sons Burton R. McNary, Jr of St. Petersburg, FL and James B. McNary (Courtney) of Haymarket VA. Her grandchildren, Lauren Albert, twins Kaitlin & Megan McNary and Nicholas McNary. Her sisters, Jeanette Marosites of Daytona Beach, FL.  Bernice Hager of Zephyrhills, FL. and her brother, Lee Sir of St. Peters, MO., and her many nieces and nephews. Edna, who was affectionately called, Cookie Grandma and Mickey Mouse Grandma will be dearly missed by all.   

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 11:00am-2:00pm at the O.B. Elks Lodge on Wilmette Avenue.  Donations in her memory may be made to the Ormond Beach Elks Ladies Auxiliary.

 RYAN-MATTHEWS, COLLEEN M., age 53, a teacher at Lovell Elementary School, Apopka, FL, died on Monday, March 31, 2008. She graduated from Bishop Moore High School and the University of South Florida, Tampa. Over a span of 30 years, she touched the lives of hundreds of students and parents. Her passion was teaching children to read. Colleen is survived by her children, Ryan Matthews, Kelly Matthews-Mock and husband, Tyler; Courtney Matthews; Keegan Matthews; granddaughter, Chloe Matthews-Boultbee; sister, Shannon Ryan, Marietta, GA; brother, Patrick Ryan; and two nephews and one niece. The family will receive visitors on April 11, 5:30PM, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka, prior to a celebration of her life at 7PM. Memorial donations may be made to: Susan G.
